A Paper Boat – Illinois Central College September 21 – October 14, 2016
It Officially Opened!
A Paper Boat was installed earlier this week with an opening on Wednesday, September 21, 2016. In Gallery 336B on the 3rd floor of the Academic Building at Illinois Central College’s East Peoria campus, two student workers (shout out to those guys – they were extremely helpful) and Gallery Curator, Stephanie Van Doren and I worked dilligently to install a lot of paper boats, building a curtain room, installing a projector with audio, about 10lbs of dry rice, 8 drawings and 6 mixed media paper collages. Many thanks to ICC, Steph, and her workers for making the show look amazing. Despite some normal gallery install fumbles: speakers no working (requiring a last minute purchase of a new set, and some mis-direction for student workers on my part) the show came together and well… it looks like a show.
To be honest I was a bit unsure how carpet walls would look, as my past experiences with carpet walls are not good. Steph guaranteed the work would look great, and I have to admit. I’m definitely digging the grey background. Also check out those 3D letters for the name. Maybe I can be an artist? I remain hopeful.
Here are some shots from the installation.
