I was fortunate to be invited by Shaun Giles, Community Engagement Director at the Frist Art Museum (Nashville, TN) to work with some of the young creatives in the Nashville community.  Shaun had left it up to me to decide what kind of format the workshop would take and naturally, I drifted to a simple bookbinding plan.

The book I planned to cover was a variation of a simple single signature pamphlet by making a hardcover portfolio and doubling the spine with two layers of bookcloth.  I had a total of 5 young artists attend and included Shaun in the workshop event as well.

It was great to see how engaged the teens were with the process and they genuinely seemed excited that they had made a book with their hands.  Extra kits were given out and the rest of the workshop time was spent in the upper galleries sketching from work in the Monuments & Myths: The America of Sculptors exhibition.

Thank you Shaun and the Frist Art Museum for this opportunity to work with you again!
